This is the time of year when I start looking ahead and planning my professional development for the new year. As a mom to two young boys I simply cannot attend all the conferences, workshops, or lectures I’d like to. I have to research my options and determine how each opportunity aligns with the goals I’ve set for myself. I also need to consider the cost of each event and potentially look for funding support. While I’m still finalizing my list, one conference I know I will be attending is ChemEd 2015 at Kennesaw State University. I am especially excited about this event, as I will be a first time attendee to this conference. While I’ve attended other national conferences like the BCCE, NSTA, and ACS, I’ve never been to a ChemEd. I am especially excited for this conference because it is designed specifically for high school and introductory Chemistry educators. While the conference is sure to provide great content resources and classroom strategies from some of the best educators in the country, I’m most looking forward to the chance to meet and network with other passionate teachers. The connections I’ve made at national conferences like this one have helped me grow as a professional and improve as a teacher.
As you look forward to planning your summer professional development I hope you put ChemEd 15 at the top of your list.
