NEXT GENERATION SCIENCE STANDARDS are now available for review until June 1st at http://www.nextgenscience.org/. This Web site contains a great deal of information regarding the background and timeline of the project. Science educators at all levels are encouraged to carefully consider the document and respond to the associated survey. It is advised to review the background information regarding the format of the document before completing the survey.
The Next Generation Science Standards are based on the National Research Council (NRC) Framework for K–12 Science Education, which describes the major practices, crosscutting concepts, and disciplinary core ideas that all students should be familiar with by the end of high school, and provides an outline of how these practices, concepts, and ideas should be developed across the grade levels.
The framework has been written to progressively develop science process skills from kindergarten through senior year of high school. Key ideas to consider while reviewing the document include the amount of core content required, the prevalence of cross-cutting ideas and an added emphasis in scientific and engineering practices.
We hope to develop a conversation here regarding the proposed changes and then provide support for chemistry educators as we move forward.
Cheers!
Deanna

Next Review
The release of the second and final public draft of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) is set for the first week in January. I hope that science teachers will set aside some time to review the draft as individuals or in groups and provide feedback to the Lead States and writers.
thanks for the heads up
Glas to hear that the project is moving forward.
