This past school year, I had the opportunity to participate in the AACT Science Coaches program. When I applied for the program, I expected to be partnered with a professor, probably someone who had been in academia for quite awhile. I thought that this person could share their research with my students and maybe help me with some content questions.

Technology is a regular part of students’ lives. From the constant presence of smartphones to the use of online tools to prepare or submit homework to the automatic understanding of the phrase “google it” to streaming digital content, it is woven into the fabric of their existence.

As we plan for the upcoming school year, it’s a good time to reflect and think about goals and the means to implement them in the next few months.

Like many schools, this year my school went 1:1. Each of our students was issued an 11 inch Chromebook with a webcam. Our upperclassmen have the the older Samsung models with a front-facing webcam and our underclassmen have the new Lenovo N22/23 models with a flippable webcam.

Technology is a word that can generate a great deal of debate in a chemistry classroom. I got into an interesting conversation with a teacher who is new to my school this year as she was moving into her classroom next to mine.

What am I doing to help kids achieve?

For anyone out there looking to do any screen recording may have already invested in Camtasia. If not, I highly reccommend investing in it. I just ran the latest update for Camtasia for mac and it now offers the capability to record directly to your mobile apple device.
