I will share how I use the Target Inquiry activity, Change You Can Believe In. I have realized that I need to include particulate models within the assessments after the lab to fully evaluate my student's conceptual understanding.
Here is what I told my students as we were studying gas laws. I have a bag of potato chips at see level and then I go to Denver where the pressure is less? What happens? Draw and build a model on your whiteboard.
NGSS and the new AP chemistry curriculum have included modelling in the chemistry curriculum, so it is imperative that we have access to good conceptual questions surrounding modelling. I am in the midst of researching the best sources of these types of questions and resources that will help teachers to design their own. If you have any suggestions, please post them here.
