Social media is getting a lot of attention as a way to disseminate information and to get students involved in chemistry classes. Prof Tehshik Yoon from the University of Wisconsin–Madison Department of Chemistry has been using social media to better engage his students in an organic lab course and to monitor their understanding of the experiment before they turn in their lab reports. The students are required to blog about the lab in language that “their grandmas would understand, so they had to understand exactly what they did at a really deep level”. For more details, read an interview with Prof Yoon on the Department of Chemistry’s Web site at http://www.chem.wisc.edu/content/qa-professor-tehshik-yoon-engaging-stud....
