POGIL activities can be used to engage students in chemistry lessons through the use of student teams, effective models, and tiered questioning. ChemEd X Talks with Kristen and Stephanie, trained POGIL facilitators. They will provide teachers with guidance on fostering student buy-in, student role formation, and POGIL implementation. Additionally, information will be shared on how to assess students' participation in POGIL activities holistically or through individual examination of process skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem solving. Kristen and Stephanie are both Stony Brook University alumni and New York State Master Teachers. They are both highly involved in the chemical education community and are well respected teachers and presenters. Kristen is a ChemEd X lead contributor and Stephanie is serving as a ChemEd X associate editor. ChemEd X Talks are 30 minute virtual meetings that consist of a short presentation (10 - 15 minutes) followed by Q&A and discussion. Teachers are asked to keep their video on if possible, ask questions and participate in the discussion by offering their own ideas and experience with the topic. These live Zoom events are free, but registration is required. Space is limited, so register early.
