Water gas reaction

When water contacts burning charcoal, hydrogen gas and carbon monoxide gas form.

Discussion:

Formation: C(s) + H2O(l) —> CO(g) + H2(g)
Combustion: CO(g) + O2(g) —> 2CO2(g)
Combustion: 2H2(g) + O2(g) —> 2H2O(g)
