Over the past few years puzzle apps have been a favorite amongst high school students. Although each vary in degree of difficulty, most involve recognizing patterns in order to advance to the next phase of the game.
Mahjong Chemistry is a puzzle app, created by the Chemistry Department at Stetson University, in which individuals try to create chemistry combinations in order to remove all of the tiles on the board. The app has various games; such as classifying molecular or ionic compounds, naming polyatomic ions, as well as identifying oxidation numbers, and each game challenges the user to apply what they have learned in introductory chemistry. In addition these games are available on PC, Android, and Apple devices, so many of our students will have access to practice chemistry content using the product of their choice.
Consider Mahjong Chemistry as a supplemental resource for students who are struggling to apply the various types of introductory content that they will eventually have to memorize.
