Helping students to interpret graphs and analyze them is an important for many reasons. Spending time training students to do just that will help them to become critical thinkers. The Graph of the Week website was recommended by a member of our school's English department during professional development designed to help every department incorporate literacy standards into their curriculum. It was shared as an example of "Close Reading", a strategy to help students understand what they are reading. Graph of the Week provides graphs related to current events and topics of interest. Teachers can use this resource as a strategy for improving science reading literacy and for promoting scientific discourse using claims, evidence and reasoning. Using these graphs and assignments may help improve student SAT and other common assessment scores.
