The new edition of “POGIL Activities for AP Chemistry” is on track to be released next winter. Laura Trout offered a sneak peak of the new activities and improvements that have been incorporated into the new edition in our March 27, 2023 ChemEd X Talk. She began with a brief description of what POGIL pedagogy is, and how it can improve your classroom.

While POGIL Activities are designed to be completed synchronously in a collaborative team setting with the teacher present as the facilitator, there are ways to utilize the activities in an asynchronous online setting.

All too often teachers use POGIL activities as worksheets when the teacher is absent, busy work to review a topic, or handouts for homework. However, using the POGIL activities in this manner does not allow the students to reap all the benefits of the activity.
