I am a precollege instructor in Portage, MI teaching chemistry, organic chemistry, computer applications, and web design. I previously taught high school in Indianapolis and was an adjunct instructor at IUPUI. I attended graduate school at Indiana University and earned 2 Master's degrees: MS Organic Chemistry (2011) and MAT Chemistry (2012). I have been a member of the ACS, AACT, HASTI, MSTA, and NSTA. This year in the midwest United States, winter has been a fickle friend. I haven’t seen the same amount of snow or ice as in recent years, but I still made sure I was prepared for it at our home by stocking up on calcium chloride to use as a de-icer on my driveway and sidewalks.

Last winter I watched a webinar put on by ACS and AACT called "NGSS in the Chemistry Classroom." As a result of watching that webinar, I took an activity that had NGSS Science & Engineering Practices (SEP) integrated into it and tried it out in class. In this activity, students are required to develop their own procedures and data tables.
