I am a precollege instructor in Portage, MI teaching chemistry, organic chemistry, computer applications, and web design. I previously taught high school in Indianapolis and was an adjunct instructor at IUPUI. I attended graduate school at Indiana University and earned 2 Master's degrees: MS Organic Chemistry (2011) and MAT Chemistry (2012). I have been a member of the ACS, AACT, HASTI, MSTA, and NSTA. It’s the end of one semester and the beginning of another. Final exam week. For the first time in my teaching career, I had my grades caught up and posted prior to the beginning of final exams. This gave me time to reflect and plan ahead. Here are some highlights of the fall semester:

Last month, I shared about a new PD opportunity I had the privilege of participating in called Gizmos. You can read about it here. After Thanksgiving break, my Chemistry 1 and Honors Chemistry 1 classes began our Chemical Reactions unit.

This week I had the opportunity to attend part 2 of a 3 day PD for Gizmos, courtesy of a district grant working with ExploreLearning. In a room full of middle school science colleagues (half of whom I knew), I was able to glean a ton of great information.
