goReact app

goReact app

I was excited to recently come across a new free app for the iPad entitled goREACT by the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago.

The app starts with the periodic table and allows the user to toggle between the elements atomic mass, common charges, and its lewis dot structure. Another feature of the app is when the user selects an element then a window pops up showing the use of the element accompanied with a picture.

One of the key features of the app is the capability to drag and drop elements to produce compounds.  Guidance is provided in a section called featured reactions.  Once the compound is made a movie pops up showing the use of that compound.  If you get a chance, I recommend you check it out especially for your high school and middle school science students.

Great tool

Thanks Doug!  Students often ask what elements and/or compounds are used for.  I don't always know.  Having a resource like this to quickly look up the use and possibly show a video can be a powerful way to create student discussion and interest.
