Cleaning the Syringe

Video. Cleaning the syringe.

Typically a microliter syringe is used to inject the sample into the gas chromatograph. The syringe should be cleaned and rinsed before use.

First draw an appropriate solvent into the syringe and expel it onto a paper towel. Wipe the tip of the needle with a laboratory tissue. Next, rinse the inside of the syringe with the sample to be injected into the gas chromatograph. Draw the sample solution into the syringe and expel it onto the paper towel. Again, wipe the needle with a laboratory tissue. Rinse the syringe with the sample several times.
