IMAGE. A laboratory mercury barometer.

While the barometer itself does not pose a serious health hazard, there is the potential for mercury exposure. Mercury can be released if the barometer tube or mercury reservoir is broken. Treat even small spills of mercury with caution. Notify your instructor of the spill and clean the area with a commercial mercury spill kit.
