The CCP Lattice and the FCC Unit Cell

Several metals crystallize with the cubic close-packed structure. A metal with a cubic close-packed structure can be described with a face-centered cubic unit cell, a cube with lattice points at the corners and a lattice point in the center of each face. Thus a cubic close-packed (CCP) metal is also called a face-centered cubic (FCC) metal.

Close-packed planes pass through the diagonals of a face-centered cubic unit cell.
