Internuclear Distances

The distance between two atoms is measured by the distance between the nuclei of the two atoms. (One common unit of distance is the picometer, pm, 1 pm = 10-12 m).

 

Use the scale under the figure as a guide and estimate the distance, D, between atoms A and B in the figure. Indicate your estimate by clicking on an answer.

Chemists measure the distance between two atoms by their internuclear distance.
