One type of Chlorox brand bleach contains sodium hypochlorite
(or chlorine) dissolved in water. The chlorine oxidizes stains in
clothing, helping the cleaning process. Of course, the chlorine
will bleach dyes as well, and will therefore produce spots if
spilled on clothing.
