Narrative
Wool is placed into a solution of hot concentrated sodium hydroxide. Wool is a protein, which is a long chain of amino acids joined by peptide bonds. The sodium hydroxide hydrolyzes the peptide bonds, and the wool is eventually broken down into its amino acids.
