The Center for Teaching and Learning at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy now offers a variety of online professional development opportunities. Among the current selection, there is a chemistry offering titled Gamifying Chemistry.

Course Based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs) are being developed and implemented at university and college campuses across the nation in STEM disciplines. Turning your course/labs into research based can be a daunting task when you don't know where/when to start. STEM faculty from Arizona State Unversity are hosting a free workshop at the end of May to disseminate their findings on their CURE programs.
During the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, celebrate CCEW 2020 April 19-25 with the theme, “Protecting Our Planet through Chemistry.” You will find resources and ideas to celebrate as an individual, as part of your own group or by working with other groups in your area.
AP Chemistry instructors Paul Price and Michael Farabaugh will share their experience in a 90-minute webinar, Helping Students Show What They Know – An AP Chemistry Review, on Wednesday, March 4th, 2020. They will share how they help students "show what they know" in preparation for the exam in May.
We really encourage all two-year college educators to speak at the 2020 BCCE about what they are doing that is working for their students. There are multiple types and communities of chemistry educators. Some of us are excellent teachers, educational researchers, or providers of public outreach. Each of us brings value to our understanding of how chemistry is taught and learned, and we can ALL learn from each other. We are hoping to have a varied program with multiple options for those who are interested in presenting. From a 10 minute quick idea that worked well in the classroom to 40 minutes of how you reformed a class, there will be something for everyone.
The conference focus is on building community. If you have an example of how you were able to bring people together please consider presenting and sharing your work. Our ultimate goal is that everyone leaves the conference feeling they are part of a bigger community of Chemistry Educators and ready to build community in the classroom and out.
