Drawing HCP Structures

Sometimes circles are used to represent hexagonal closest packed structures.

We will use bold circles (drawing 1) to represent the atoms in the first layer of a HCP structure. Narrow circles (drawing 2) represent the second layer.

Use the buttons to explore how the circles in the drawing relate to the position of the atoms in a HCP structure.
