Light Has Wave Properties - Diffraction by Two Slits

The diffraction pattern of green light passing through two 0.04 mm slits with 0.125 mm center-to-center spacing is shown in the image at the right.

Notice the alternating bright and dark areas, corresponding to reinforcement of the superposed waves (bright) and cancellation of the superposed waves (dark). Bright areas are the result of constructive interference of the waves. Dark areas show destructive interference of the waves.
