Acidity of the Product: Acetic Acid and Sodium Bicarbonate

The acidity of the products of the reaction between HC2H3O2 and NaHCO3 is determined using pH paper.

Discussion

Instructors should remind students that we are testing the product, not the reactant (acetic acid), in this segment.

Narration

When the acetic acid solution is tested, the pH is not as low. The color of the pH paper is more of a yellow-orange, indicating a pH between 5 and 7.
