Many of the chemical demonstrations shown in videos in this collection are hazardous. The videos are not intended to teach chemical demonstration techniques. They are intended to enhance classroom presentations by making it possible for students to see demonstrations that present safety hazards or are difficult for an entire class to observe as live demos. Anyone who intends to do live chemical demonstrations should be a qualified professional and should consult a source such as the Journal of Chemical Education Tested Demonstrations column or the DigiDemos section of JCE Online for directions, safety warnings, and methods of disposal of hazardous products of the demonstrations. Precautions for the safe use of hazardous chemicals and directions for their proper disposal are described in Material Safety Data Sheets and on the labels of reagent containers. Although every effort has been made during production of these videos to assure and encourage safe practices and safe use of chemicals, the Journal of Chemical Education cannot assume responsibility for uses made of its published materials. We strongly urge all those planning to carry out live demonstrations or experiments based on this product to make choices and to develop procedures for laboratory and classroom safety in accordance with local needs and situations. |
