Hydrochloric acid is added to sodium hypochlorite solution to produce chlorine gas. Calcium carbide is added, producing bubbles of acetylene which burst into flame.

Narrative
6M hydrochloric acid is added to sodium hypochlorite bleach. The beaker is covered and green chlorine gas fills the container. Calcium carbide is then added. The bubbles of acetylene which form burst into flame and soot is deposited on the walls of the beaker.
