Diels-Alder Reaction of Anthracene and TCNE

Tetracyanoethylene in dichloromethane is added to anthracene in cyclohexane.

Narrative
A solution of tetracyanoethylene in dichloromethane is added dropwise to a solution anthracene in cyclohexane. The initial green color is due to formation of a charge transfer complex. Slowly, a white precipitate of the Diels-Alder adduct is formed.
