Narrative
In the past, as a form of antisepsis, veterinarians used the reaction of iodine with turpentine (which is 60% a-pinene) to force iodine into the deep wounds of large animals.

Discussion
The use of this reaction in disinfecting a wound on a horse's hoof was related by James Herriot in his book "All Creatures Great and Small."
