Narrative
A model of the chair conformation of cyclohexane is oriented so that its outline reveals the shadow of a chair. Tracing the projection of this outline shows how the chair conformation is portrayed on a flat piece of paper. First, the outline of the carbon skeleton is drawn, then the positions of the hydrogen atoms. Notice there are 2 types of bonds in chair cyclohexane - axial bonds that are perpendicular to the ring and equatorial bonds that are roughly in the plane of the ring.
